This site treats today’s questions as part of a shared study. Below is how your chat content may be used, what we do to it first, and how you can take it down at any time.
1. Using the site means you accept this
- By using this website you accept that your chat content may, after de-identification, be used in this site’s shared-study content (the “Where Today’s Learners Ask” section on concept pages) and in subsequent research.
- Inclusion is gated: every entry passes an AI pre-screen and then a human guardian’s case-by-case ruling. The large majority of chat content is never included.
- Included entries carry no byline. Your name, account, phone number, or any identifying information will never appear on the page.
2. De-identification is our obligation, not an option
- Automated: when a context summary is generated, entities such as names, places, organisations, ages, and occupations are replaced.
- Manual: any entry touching on personal circumstances (unemployment, relationships, family, health, and the like) must pass a manual de-identification check before it reaches the guardian’s review queue.
- Re-identification backstop: if the guardian judges an entry still identifiable after de-identification, it may only be included as a fingerprint-free paraphrase, or counted in statistics without showing the original text.
- User identifiers are stored only as keyed HMACs (the key is rotatable) throughout, and no identifying information is ever shown in the interface.
3. You can take it down at any time
- Signed-in users see “My included questions” on their personal page; a single click takes an entry down immediately, without waiting for the next weekly review.
- On takedown, the entry’s text, context summary, and source material are scrubbed, leaving only a content-free audit record.
- Deleting your account triggers content scrubbing for every entry associated with it.
4. Retention
- Chat logs are retained for 24 months and then cleared.
- Included shared-study entries are retained until taken down or retired; after takedown their content is scrubbed as described above.
5. Content involving psychological crisis is never included
- Content involving self-harm, suicide, or serious psychological crisis is excluded from shared-study content entirely and is never published.
- Such content is handled in the moment by the answering path, which provides referral information. It is not mined in batches, and no after-the-fact referral will reach you.
